CANTERBURY r. ASHBURTON AND GERALDINE. A Canterbury representative team Journeyed to Ashburton yesterday to play a combined Ashburton and Geraldine eleven. Tho teams were:—Canterbury: Goalkeeper, Cooper; backs, 'Robertson and Mahar; halves, Amos, Anderson and Waters; forwards, Collins, Hulston, Featkerston, S. Wilson and Green. Ashburton and Ueraldino: Goalkeeper. M'Kenzie; backs, A. Silocok and Meddins; halves, F. Clark, Steel and M'Donald; forwards, N B. Ames, M Fedries, Watt, Wilson'and H. Amos.' From the initial bully, Canterbury attacked, but hard hitting by Featherfcton resulted in a Homo central play followed until sticks against Clark allowed Canterbury .to get into the home team's circle. Wild thooting by S. Wilson spoilt a good chance. From central play Green was noticeable for eome good play on the w.ing, taking the ball well into tho home team'« territory and. centring accurately. Off-side play by'Ftfather*>ton spoilt the opeuing, and tho free hit removed play to neutral territory. B. Amos ivne penalised for sticks, ai <l Anderson instituted another Canterbury attack &<i a .result of which Featherstou had a good shot, -which waa, however, well stopped by Silcock. The v visitors continued to'attack strongly and S. Wilson scored an easy one. Canterbury 1, Ashburton 0. On, resuming, Mahar was instrumental in iuKtituting a passing rush by the Cauterburv forwards from which Green narrowly missed scoring. A long hit by Watt, for Ashburton, put Canterbury oh tho defensive, and tho home team continued to press their opponents until Robertson found the line. Play was gradually removed into Ashburton'» t»rid, but Silcock, who was playing a fine game in the back division, saved his circle from danger with a hard drive. M'Fedries also put in tome good stick play and the leather wais taken to Canterbury territory for a time. Another rush by the visitors' ended in a twenty-live, and from the resultant bully Groen ran in and scored. Canterbury 2. Ashburton 0. Half-time was called soon afterward.?. Oh resuming, Canterbury attacked temporarily, but Amos, Watt and Wilson took play the length of the ground, /and from a scramble in the visitoro' / circle, the first-named scored. Canterbury 3, Ashburton 1. Tho visitors continued to attack, but Meddins, the home team's goalkeeper cleverly oaved. Returning to Ashburton s circle shortly afterwards, Featherstou ecored with a gocd shot. Canterbury 4, Ashburton 1. From this until time was called play was for the most part In mid-field, and tho game ended in R win for Canterbury by four goala. Kcored by Green (two), Wilson and Featherstou, to one goal shot by Amos. Mr D. Allison was referee.

YESTERDAY'S MATCHES. On account oi : a representative team 'Javing gone to Ashburton yesterday, lio games in connection with tho Senior jompetitions were played. JUNIORS. Playing at Rangiora, tho local club defeated the Drapers by three goala to nil- The goals were scored by N. Jones. G. Smith and J. Hamilton. The game between Addingtou and Lyttelton; played on the Polo Ground, resulted in a win for tho former by three goals to one. For the winners M'Cracken (two) and G. Pearce (one), *nd for tho losers Purnell were the scorers Mr Elyott was referee. On the same ground Farmers and Kaiapoi played a drawn game, each Jeam scoring" two goals. For l'arniers JTudd and "Watts, and for the other sido llayman and Gray ecored. Mr Ching was Toferee. PRESIDENTS, On the Polo Ground, Hardware defeated Drapers B by ten goals to two. Ball (seven), L. Smith (two) arid Hill (one) for tho winners, and C. Smith and Ayling for the losers scored. Mr G. B. Shaw was referee. TO XHJ EDITOR.
