THE BABY SHOW.
TO THE EDITOR. Colo's reply to my letter by Ho means exonerates the W.C.T.U. from blame inConnection with the judging ami general mismanagement of the baby show, in fact, it now appears that they were. even, more culpable than 1 at first thought. They allowed mothers to think that they were interesting themselves in the baby show when they bad not the slightest intention of doing so. They' permitted a. lying advertisement to induce mothers to bring their babies to the show, and, although they saw the. advertisement, they took care not to repudiate it till after the show was over. How quickly Mrs Cole repudiated a certain doctor who was not even pretending to be running under the auspices of 'W.C.T.U. A French proverb has it that ho who excuses himself accuses himself, and Mrs Colo has accused herself by allowing tho name of the W.C.T.U. to he used by an unscrupulous person, to the hurt of babies, and mothers.—l am, etc., INDIGNANT. TO THE EDITOR Sir.—ls it not a breach of faith for tho Exhibition authorities to advertise that medals will be presented to the prize winners, and then make the parents for the engraving? The show drew over 21,000 people, considerably over what the bands were able to draw, so there is realty no excuse for tho niggardliness of the authorities. Tho total cost of engraving tho names on the thirty or forty medals would be about £2, and uniformity of engraving would have been ensured. If it was stated beforehand that prize- winners’ parents would have to pay for the engraving, or purchase the medals themselves, exhibitors would have no cause to complain. I see that a correspondent signing himself, or herself, “ Indignant/* complains of the incompetence of the judges, but if lie got his baby judged at all, he is more fortunate than many parents whose children were never taken into tho judging room. I do not know whoso fault it was that parents were not informed when their children were wanted in the judgingrcom, but I do know that many parents did not know that the judging had taken place till the whole thing was over. But this is only on a par with the mismanagement of the whole affair. —I am, etc., EXHIBITION.,
