Harris was serving a ten years’ sentence, and was employed in the bootmakers’ department in the prison. (Whilst Air Quaine, Deputy Governor of the Parramatta Gaol, was inspecting the prisoners, a long-sentence man named George Harris sprang from the line and struck Quaine heavily in the face. Then with the other hand he ©tabbed him in the breast with a shoemaker’s knife. With the assistance of warders Harris was disarmed. Quaine is in a precarious condition. The wound penetrated the lung.)
