KAIAPOI METHODIST CIRCUIT

The quarterly district meeting of the Kaiapoi Methodist Clitirch _ Circuit was held on Thursday at tlfe residence of Mr Richard Eyiaria, Waveriey. The Officers and their wives were dhtertained at a garden. party in the afternoon. • The Rev H/E. Belllfouse, superintendent of the, district, presided at the meeting held in the evening. Twenty officers were present.' It was reported that the Kaiapoi and Ohoka Ladies’ Guilds had raised £l4 and _ £2O respectively towards foreign, missions. A special effort had been resolved iipori to raise funds to build a. new parsonage and to augment the general fund. Mr W. E. T. Nourish was warmly welcomed as a new society steward. During the quart tot Mrs M’Gaffin, Mr, 6. Edwards and Mr H. Pchwell had died. Each being very old and respected members of the church letters of sympathy Were orderon to be sent ti> their relatives. During the quarter\ twenty-three persons were received into church . fellowship,, one being upwards of seventy years of age. The income for the quarter was £92 4s9d, and expenditure £lO5 Os Id. Mr G. A. Ellen, superintendent of the Kaiapoi Sunday Scho&l, reported that the schools in the district were in a very satisfactory Condition, aiid that the Christian Eiideavdui' Societies’ , meetings were heirig well attended with very satisfactory results. It was resolved That this meeting desires to place on record its high appreciation or the conspicuous pulpit ability aiid faithfulness in the discharge of pastoral duties of the Rev H. E. Rellhouse during his residence in the circuit, and regrets that the president’s ruling regarding the five years’ limit debars it from in- j vitiilg him to,continue his labours in the district.’’ The Rev E. O. Blarnirfes’ services were also highly eulogised, and i it was decided that an earnest appeal j should be made at the conference to retain his services for another term. It was unanimously resolved to invite the Rev Thomas Trestrail* of South. Duhedin, to become Mr Bellhduse’s successor, Mr Jessie Clothier and Mr S. Sheat wore appointed as substitutes stewards to the Tima.ru confei'cnco. Regret was expressed at Mr Sheafs re- 1; moval from the district. Mr A. Catchpole attended as a deputation from the Rarigiora district to express the high esteem in which Mr Sheat was lield, his homo having always been open to preachers. Several others spoke in similar terms, aiid Mr Sheat replied in appreciative terms, saying that he had been forty-one years in the district and did hot propose to leave it permanently. A fetter of sympathy was ordered to be sent to the late Rev W. Real’s widow lamenting hoi- sad bereavement. The question of the . minister’s remuneration was discussed, and regret was •expressed that certain districts’ did not contribute even the minimum stipend. A resolution was passed favouring separation from the Australian Conference. Before closing a hearty vote of thanks was accorded to Mr and Mrs Evans and family for their hospitality.
