AMUSEMENTS.

, THEATRE ROYAL. “The Face at tho Window” was produced for the second time at the Theatre Royal last evening, and Mr William Anderson’s Dramatic Company succeeded fully in convincing a very large audience of its ability te interpret modern melodrama in its most strenuous phases. The piece went very well, the acting of the principals being of considerable merit, and the staging was satisfactory in all its details. “The Face at the Window” will be repeated this evening and tomorrow, and will give place on Thursday to a romantic drama entitled, “ Between Two Women.” Owing to the success of the season, the management has decided to extend its stay in Christchurch over Monday and Tuesday of next week, and on those evenings “ The Work Girl ” will be staged. OPERA HOUSE. The Opera House was well attended last evening, and tho programme submitted by Fuller’s Vaudeville Company was very well received, Credge and Gibson repeated their sketch, “ Adam the Second,” with marked success, and the Lentous gave an excellent acrobatic turn. The reappearance of Professor Antonio’s clever dog and monkey circus was one of the features of the programme. “ The Four Rosebuds ” sang and danced in excellent style, “ Ethel the Boneless ” repeated hex series of contortionist feats, and other members of the company contributed acceptable items. MUSICAL UNION. The Christchurch Musical Union has selected oratorio for the third of this season’s concerts, and Mendelssohn’s “St Paul” will be given in His Majesty’s Theatre to-night and to-morrow night. Special arrangements have been made for seating subscribers, and it is anticipated that after they have all been accommodated some five hundred seats in the pit of the theatre will be available for non-subscribers. A charge of a shilling will be made for each of these seats. Every possible arrangement has been made for tho comfort of tho audience, and, supper and refreshments will be available during the evening.
