The “ Spectator,” referring to the experimental 'company, emphasises the possibility of forming a militia force of 300,000 men at comparatively small cost. (Colonel Pollock undertook to take a batch of selected raw recruits, and, with six months’ training, to make them efficient soldiers. The experiment was financed by the “ Spectator ” Newspaper Company. Colonel Pollock claims that his scheme is of value to the Empire, in that it shorn how to organise ancl perfect a force in a comparatively short time. Experts asserted that Colonel Pollock could not possibly succeed, but, according to a recent cablegram, the company has completed its’ six months of training, and the experiment has proved a great success.)
