PIGEON-FLYING.

The Canterbury Flying Club opening- race of the season on Saturaay from Hinds, an air line of sixty-one miles. Seventeen. members sent sixty-seven birds, which, were liberated by the stationmaster at 12.58 p.m. The wind' was south-wert and 1 the weather fine. The following- was the result:— Mr H. Scrivener’s Snowdrop, 1861yds; Mr A. Buckley’s Challenge. 1347yds; Mr H. Ayers’ 441, 1338yds; Mr J. M’Lean’s Bob Boy, 1322yds ; Mr E. 'Smith’s Pegey. 1293yds; -Mr J. Brunt’s Bad Luck, 1203yds.' The club desires to thank the stationmaster for his care and! liberation of the birds. The Christchurch Homing Pigeon Society flew off its first old' bird: race from Hinds on Saturday. Seventy-nine birds were sent, representing nineteen owners. The bird's were liberated at 12.58 p.m. in fine weather. The winner was Mr W. Dixon’s Quicksilver, which covered; the distance of sixty-two miles 157 yards, air line, in Ihr 14min 56sec, Tha Society desires to thank the station-master' for kindly 'liberating tbe birds.
