INCONVENIENCE TO PEDESTRIANS.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir —I wish to call attention to the inconvenience pedestrians are put to in connection with the erection, of new buildings in and around Christchurch. There is no provision mad© around the hoarding for foot-passengers to pass along and no handrail to protect them from passing vehicles. If it happens to be wet, they have to walk through mud quite Sin or 3in deep. In Dunedin the by-laws provide that each contractor shall build a proper passage-way and protect it with, a handrail, and I would like to see the same provision in Christchurch. It would be an advantage if the Council refused any building permits in main thoroughfares until after the close of the Exhibition.—l am, etc., VISITOR.
