ENTERTAINMENTS.

There was an attendance of about sixty persons at the New Brighton Beautifying Society’s social in Hawker’s Haal on Thursday night. Tire first part of the evening was devoted to a progressive euchre contest, and after supper a dance was held. A lecture on the sun was given by Mr T. W. Rowe, M.A., at the weekly meeting of the Lyttelton Literary and Debating Society in St John’s Presbyterian. School on Thursday. Mr A. Henderson, one of the vice-presidents of the Society, was in the chair. The lecture was illustrated by a number of limelight views, and at the close a hearty vote of thanks was passed to Mr Rowe.
