ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
A man named John Pask, who was employed in driving one of Messrs Heywood and Co.’s drays for the State Coal Depot, met with an accident in Cathedral Square yesterday. His horse wias frightened by a tram and bolted, the hit breaking. The load of coal shifted and Pask was thrown out, a wheel of the , dray passing over his left leg and breaking it. The dray ran into, an iron fence at the hack of the Alliance Assurance Company’s premises, wrecking it completely, but the hors© was practically unhurt. The injured man was removed to the Hospital. '
An elderly . man named William Henry Brown met with a sever© accident : yesterday on • the Papanui Road. Ho was driving .towards the city, and whennear Holly Road met two trams. His horse took fright, and got beyond control. The trap was run into the side-channel, and Mr Brown was thrown out, landing ,on his head. The upper part of his skull was fractured, the bone on the right side being crushed down on the brain, and ho was, of course, unconscious,when picked up. He was taken 1 to Miss Pope’s nursing home, which is close by, and his injuries were dressed. He was then conveyed to the Christchurch Hospital, and had partially recovered consciousness when it was reached.
A boy named James Bromfield was brought into Cjiristchuroh from Annat yesterday and taken to the Hospital; having had his foot badly injured by a oa/rt loaded with shingle passing over
Shortly after three o’clock yesterday '•afternoon, a cab drawn by a fractious horse, backed .into a passing tramcar at the intersection of Lichfield and Colombo Streets, and the driver was thrown fyom hi* seat arid stunned, but no serious damage was done. There was a large open wound in the t throat, and a razor was found on the ground near by. Deceased was, apparently, a working man. He wore a soar) with the initials “ J.M.” worked thereon.
