MEETINGS OF CREDITORS.

A meeting of creditors in the bankrupt estate of George Allen Gulliver) of Rangiora, builder and contractor, was held at the Official Assignee’s office yesterday. Mr Helmore appeared for the bankrupt. The bankrupt’s statement showed that the total liabilities were £325 10s, including liabilities amounting to £lB2 on existing contracts for the erection of a Poet Office at Rangiora (£136) and a stable at Rangiora (£47). The assets were valued at £356, and comprised an amount of £lO6, due on the - two contracts at Rangiora and certified for, furniture valued at £6O, and a third share in the property in which he lived at Rangiora, valued at £7O. There was a surplus of £3O 10s. The principal unsecured creditors were:—-Hugh Boyd (Rangiora), £SO; E. R. Good (Rangiora), £2O; J. Sansom (Rangiora), £l6; Smith and Smith (Christchurch), £11; Hammon and Blackmore (Christy church), £5; C. Hawes (Rangiora), £l2;'A. Jones (Rangiora), £23. The Official Assignee stated that the bankrupt’s partner, one Rogers, had filed some time ago, and it had been found impossible to deal with the estate unless Gulliver would file or pay all his partner’s debts. He had been very reluctant to file, but had been forced to do so.

i The Assignee read a sworn statement by the bankrupt to the effect that he was a builder and contractor, and had been in business for nearly seven years in partnership with Rogers. They did well for a time, until they started a sawmill. Since January ho had been carrying on the business in his own name, having assumed that the partnership was cancelled. The bankrupt stated the Government contract which he had was covered by two sureties. It was decided that the two existing contracts should be handed over to the debtor and his sureties for completion, and that his interest in the house property and the furniture should be returned to the debtor.

The Official Assignee stated that on behalf of the other creditors ho would disclaim all liability on the contracts. It was further decided that the bankrupt should be recommended for his discharge as early as possible, the creditors being fully satisfied as to his character.

A meeting of creditors in the estate of H. S. Ritchie, of Papanui, cycle mechanic, was to have been held at the Official Assignee’s office yesterday, hut lapsed for want of'a quorum. The statement made by the bankrupt showed that the liabilities were £69 8s lOd, and the assets stock-in-trade valued at £2, leaving a deficiency of £67 8« lOd.
