TENDERS are invited by the New Zealand Government: (1) For a Direct Steam Service between New Zealand Ports and South Africa. The steamers to bo not less than Three Thousand Five Hundred Tons Ecgisler, and their draught when loaded must enable them to discharge at wharves at South African ports; lighterage, when necessary, to he paid by contractors. The steamers to he fitted with Refrigerators to carry Frozen Meat and Dairy Produce. Tenderers to stale the maximum amount of Refrigerating Space. Tenderers to state maximum accommodation for Live Stock. The steamers to have minimum accommodation for 20 Saloon and 25 Steerage" passengers, and to provide suitable space for Mails. The speed of steamers to tie nor less than 10 knots (ocean going), with pena.ty and bonus on a scale to ho arranged, hut not to exceed £SOO per voyage. The steamers to load at Four Selected Ports in New Zealand, in Geographical Order, and to discharge at the three following ports in South Africa; Durban, Port Elizabeth and Table Bay. The rates of freight from Now Zealand ports to South Africa shall not, be greater than the following;—Wheat, at per ton weight, 27s 6d; Flour, at per ton weight, 27s Gd; Barley, at per ton weight, 27s 6d; Oats, at per ton weight, 27s Gd; Bran, at per ton weight, 30s; Potatoes, in sacks, at per ton weight, 32s Gd; Potatoes, in boxes, at per ton of 50 cubic feet' measurement, 30s; Hay, Oaten or Meadow, pressed in hales, at per ton of 50 cubic feet measurement, 32s Gd; Horses and Fullgrown Cattle, £lO 10s each; Frozen Meat and Dairy Produce, •at current summer rates ruling between New Zealand and London; other goods at rates current between New Zealand and London. The rates of freight from New Zealand to Fremantle must not exceed the rates current from time to time I from Sydney and Melbourne to Fremantle. I Tenderers to state what period of time required before berthing the first steamer in Now Zealand, such time to count from tie date of acceptance of tender. Tenderers are required to state that different amounts of subsidy required per voyage for either of the services. A tender and its acceptance are to be considered the establishment of a contract binding on both sides. The cardinal points are to bo consistent with this advertisement, the , tender and its acceptance. Should any dispute arise over minor points, the matter in dispute shall ho referred to arbitration. A deposit of £2OOO is to accompany each tender, and in the case of the successful tenderer, to he returned upon completion of a satisfactory charter.
