OCK COHKESPOJTDESiT.] DUNEDIN, December 14. The Maheno is already proving a fa-vouxiJ-o boat with the travelling public. Oi. -z present round trip from Melbourne, via Dunedin, to Sydney, she must be putting up'something like a passenger record. She brought fortythree ealoon passengers from Melbourne, and fifteen from Hobart and Elnfr. No fewer than ninety saloon psasengors joined her at Dunedm, and oni> hundred and seventeen are to join her at Wellington. This does not take into account the passengers who are booking at Lyttelton, nor the total number of second-class -passengers, ■which is proportionately large. Swo of the sons of Mr and Mrs John R'aid, of Elderelie, who to-day celebrate their golden wedding, are well known in sporting circles, via., Mr J. B. Reid, who owned Gladsome, when she raced in this colony, and Mr C. W. Beid» president of the North Otago Jockev Club. In the early-sixties, Mr Reid,'sen., embarked in commercial pursuits in Dunedin, but since 1875 he lies settled on the Elderelie Estate. Mr Reid was one of the earliest exploiters of the frozen meat export trade.
