CYCLING.
LEAGUE OF WHEELMEN. The Council of tho League of Wheel-, men met in Mr E. Nordon's office on Wednesday evening; presentr-MaasM ~ H. Curtis (chairman), D. .&. Wood, A. ■ R. Barker, R. W. .Barry, A. C Duff, H. G. Goodman, T. Smith and E. Nordon (secretary). The treasurer reported a bant balance of £IOB 10a Bd. Two letters from the North Canter bury Centre, stating business done,. . were received. # - - The Executive Commissioner of ta4 Exhibition -wrote suggesting a conference in regard to" the proposal to hold the 1906-07 championships in Christchurch. ' The seoretary stated that he naa seen the Commissioner, and suggested _ that in consideration of the ships being held in Christohurch during the period of the Exhibition, the Exhibition authorities ■ should offer for competition a trophy of the value' of about £25. This suggestion had beoo favourably received. In reply to a let-tor from the Nelson Cycling Club regarding the championship meeting, it -was decided to inform the club that it had already agreed' to conduct the meeting with a £SO expenses limit, and must adhere to th« arrangement. G. Sutherland wrote asking permis. sion to receive payment of expense* from clubs when using a motor-cycle at a sports meeting. He stated that he though he should be allowed to receive his expenses when using th« motor-cycle for exhibition purposes. Some discussion took place on ±hM point, members contending that the proposal involved a practical breach of the rules. Finally, it was decided to inform Sutherland that the rules prevented tho Council' giving tho desired permis■sion. Other correspondence was read and dealt with, and the meeting closed. The inaugural meeting of the Ashburioa ■ Cash Cycling Club .was hold in. th« Domain yesterday tifternoon in a heavy downpour of rain. The attendance, in consequence of th« adverse weather conditions, was very small. Several of the Christchurch cyclists returned by tho early express, and a- number of events were cut out of the programme.
