[Pek Press Association.] AUCKLAND, December 14., At the Wesleyan District Synod today, Mr J. W. Shackelford moved—- " That in addition to two circuit stewards, circuits employing more than t\vo ministers should have the right of electing additional representation, according to the number of ministers, but no circuit shall have more than three' representatives besides circuit stewards." The proposal was carried. On the motion of the Rev James T. Pinfold, the following resolution, was unanimously carried—" That this Synod views with much concern the growing evil of gambling among the people of the colony. It respectfully asks the Conference to urge the Government to introduce a Bill, into the House of Representatives to make the totalisator illegal, and requests all the members of our church to discountenance by every means in their power the baneful influence of gambling." BLENHEIM, December 14. The Nelson District Synod of the Methodist Church opened to-day. The Rev W. J. 'Williams, of Nelson, presided. The Rev W. J- Elliott (Hokitika) was chosen secretary. Permission was granted to attend the Conference in Dunedin, during February, 1908, to all ministers who can make arrangements for suitable pulpit supply and announce their intention of being present to the secretary of- the Conference not later than January 10.
