SANATORIUM FOR CONSUMPTIVES.

The Executive Committee of the Canterbury Sanatorium for Consumptives met yesterday; present—Mr H. J. Beswick (chairman) the Mayor (Mr C. M. Gray), Drs Greenwood, Talbot, Morton-Audevson and Jennings, Mr H. Adamson and Mr H. B. Smith (honorary treasurer). The chairman said that the trustees of the Cashmere Estate had approved the alterations suggested' with reference to the boundaries of the site in their grounds, chosen by the Executive’s Selection Committee, and a formal offer of the property had been submitted. The conditions dealing with reading and fencing, under which the trustees were prepared to give the land, had been submitted, and Mr Beswich mentioned thgt bo considered that they would be readily approved by the executive. He described the gift as a magnificent one. The Mayor moved that the offer should be accepted, and that a letter should he sent to the givers, conveying the Executive’s gratitude. The motion was seconded by Dr Jennings, and was carried unanimously. It was agreed that Mr S. Hurst Seager should be given permission to sink a trial well, with a view to securing a water supply for the sanatorium. The chairman said that a letter had been sent to the trustees of the estate of the late Hon J. T. Peacock, who had left a certain sum for distribution in philanthrophy, .and a reply had been received stating that the Executive’s request for assistance would receive consideration. The treasurer reported that the credit balance at the bank was £l9 15s, and there was a sum of £SOO placed on temporary deposit at 3 percent.

Dr Jennings moved that a letter expressing the Executive’s thanks should be sent to Mrs Townend, who had given £IOOO towards the funds of the sana*torium, and indicating that the name of her father, the late Mr Moore, would be commemorated in the building. Dr Talbot second the motion, and it was unanimously passed. The area of the site exceeds twelve acres, and it is estimated that the value is over £2OOO.
