POVERTY BAY. [Peb Press Association’.! , GISBORNE, October 24. Tliere is glorious weather for the Agricultural and Pastoral Show, which opened to-day with a large attendance, including many visitors to the district. The entries are largely in excess of previous years, and though condition 'lias suffered somewhat by a long, wet winter and a late spring, the quality of the exhibits excites favourable comment. The championship for Lincoln ram and ewe was secured'by Mr D. Kirkpatrick, a local breeder. In blood classes, Mr G. Carrington carried off honours with the mare Yogo-ra. -The championship Shorthorn bull was Mr 0. Gray’s Cherry Knight, bred by Archdeacon Williams. MANAWATU SPRING SHOW. PALMERSTON NORTH, October 23. Although the specific figures are not yet available, the entries for the spring show of the Manawatu Agricultural and Pastoral Association, on November 1,2 and 3, indicate that all previous records will bo eclipsed. In houses theio will be an increase of quite SO per cent, the total' in all classes, being 700. Cattle and sheep are just about the same as last year, with a slight increase if anything. Several new breeders are reoresented in these classes. Pigs show a decided increase. ' Of dogs there will be 240. .The poultry entries are large, but cannot be compared with last year, owing to an alteration in the classes, due to the winter show, only utility classes being scheduled at the coming show. The entries in the horse competitions total 240. In sheep, horses, cattle and pigs the show will bo distinctly representative of the North Island breeders.
