BOROUGH COUNCILS.

SUMNER. A meeting of the Sumner ■ Borough Council was held on Friday evening; present —the Mayor (Mr F. Pratt) and all the councillors. The Mayor stated that in the correspondence he had received from members of the House of Representatives regarding forming the esplanade, all the members sympathised with the purpose, but they did not hold out any hopes that’ the Government would assist. It was decided' to write to the Hon C. Louisson and other members of the Legislative Council, thanking them for the trouble they had taken to get a clause inserted in. the Shop Hours Bill, excluding the boroughs of Sumner and New Brighton from the combined district of Christchurch. It was resolved that the Finance Committee with the Mayor should form a sub-committee to arrange for a temporary loan of £6OO, to be placed on deposit, and to forward a marked cheque to the Woolston Council, so that tenders for the Heathoote Bridge could be" called for at once. A letter from Messrs Izard and Loughnan, asking the Council to approve of a right-of-way through Mr Neubrey’s property, was referred to the Works Committee to report. The treasurer’s statement showed the receipts since last meeting to have been £39 8s lOd. The rates and charges .outstanding on March- 31 amounted to £lO 18s lOd. The debtor hank balance on all accounts stood at £6Ol 4s lid, and accounts presented for payment amounted to £214 17s Id. The report was adopted.
