EDUCATION BOARD.
■[he Nprth Canterbury Education Board mot on Wednesday; present— Messrs J. Bonnie (chairman), H. W. Peryman, M. Dalziel, 0. H. A. T. Opie, J. Sight, G. W. Russell and T. iVV. Adams. , The Buildings Committee, in its report, dealt with additions, repairs and other matters. , _ , ' The Appointments Committee reportid that it hesitated to recommend the suggestion that scholarship candidates should be allotted numbers, to obviate the necessity for names appearing, as at present. The question was referred back to the committee for further consideration. . , The Buildings Committee was asked to_ consider an application foi a School at Hawarden. 1 , A deputation from Harewood Road waited on the Board, and asked it to purchase a building erected on tno school grounds in the provincial day», jund used, as a library. Ground has been obtained for a new library, and the old building is not needed, it adjoins the school. The request was referred to the Buildings Committee.The following appointments were made:—Miss J. M. Aiken, .junior assistant mistress at Christchurch East, Mr R. H. Ferguson, master at Kaiapoi Island ; Miss M. Hunter, first assistant mistress at Lyttelton; Mr W. Balch, headmaster at Belfast; Miss E. J Ritchie, first assistant mistreste at Belfast. The following resignations were accepted:—Miss H. Patrick, mistress at Dorie; Miss A. Stanley, mistress at Glentunnel; Miss E. M. M Inman, mistress- at Ruapuna; Miss J. M’Kinnon, mistress at West Eyreton. Thb Normal School c and Technical Committee reported that lectures on education would bo given at Canterbury. College. Miss R. J. Hodgson had resigned her position on the teaching staff of the Normal School, and the resignation had been accepted. A report on the’present term of the Technical Classes showed that the number of students enrolled was below the average, but no reliable estimate could be giveh until the end of the second ■week. . • The report was adopted. A letter'was received from the Edm cation Department, fixing the present number of managers of the Technical Classes at fifteen, and stat- ; ing thatmeetings for the election of managers should he held on or before November 18. The number of managers allotted to the bodies bad been fixed as follows .-—City Council 6, Education Board 2, Employers’ Association,, County Council, Agricultural and Pastoral Association, Chamber of , Commerce, Industrial Association, Trades and Labour Council and School Committees’ Association one each. The number of.-managers to represent such other bodies as might contribute to the classes could be determined later. Mr Russell pointed out that the School Committees’ Association and the County Council would have the same representation; although the former contributed* £2 and the latter £SO. . The secretary was instructed to take teteps to. have the elections held. ' A letter was received from the chairman of the St Albans School Committee, explaining the proceedings at the recent meeting of householders.
