SWIMMING.
The annual general meeting of the Yaldhurst Amateur Swimming Club was held on October 11, Mr O’Donnell, captain, presiding. The report showed that the club bad made satisfactory progress. There were thirty-six senior and three junior members. A carnival was held in December, when Mr Hamilton established a new New Zealand record by swimming the 220yds in smin 51 1-osec. The total receipts were £9l 13s lid, and the expenditure £B3 5s 9d, leaving a credit balance of £8 8s 2d, of which the club’s liabilities will absorb all but about £3. The following officers were elected :—Patrons, Messrs C. Lewis, M.H.R., and Mr G. Witty, M.H.R.; president, Mr R. J. Mason; vice-presidents, Messrs W. Johnston, J. Franks, W. Franks, A. Johnston, W. J. Guy, W. T. Burgess, T. Needham, G. M’Guinness, A. Chisnall, M. Hobbs, G. Palmer, 6. E. Stead and C. H. Piper; captain, Mr R. O’Donnell; subcaptain, Mr P. Mason; secretary, Mr F. Bowler ; treasurer, Mr F. J. Franks ; committee, Messrs A. Kingdon, B. Kingdon, G. Johnston, H. Davies, L. Guy, V. Guy. W. O’Brien,. F. Christmas, L. Neednam and J. Franks; delegate to Centre, Mr R. O’Donnell; handicappers, Messrs Bowler and O’Donnell. A general meeting of the Southbridge Amateur Swimming Club was held in the Library on Wednesday evening. There was a good attendance of members, and Dr Withers presided. Correspondence was read from the Town Board regarding its non-accep-tance of the £5 bonus, A motion by Mr Chapman, advocating the disbanding of the dub was lost.
