THE PREMIER’S CONCEPTION OF : THE STATE’S DUTY. - United 'Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. SYDNEY, July 29. The Premier informed a deputation which waited upon him in the interests of the unemployed that the function of the State was to see that the people did not starve, but not to find work. Government would find food and even a stick of tobacco for the unemployed, but would go no further. It would give .what work was available, but would not provide work in the shape of relief, when such work was not required. He announced that he would x’eceive no more deputations.
