THE VOLUNTEERS.

A special fort-manning parade of No. 7 Company Garrison Artillery Volunteers (N Battery) was held on Wednesday at Fort Jerveis, llipa Island. Tho company mustered seventy-two of all ranks, under Captain Brice and Lieutenants Wa-rdlo, Neville and Willis. Acting-Major Cooper, of the Lyttelton Artillery Division, was present. All the guns of the fort were manned, and tho various stations occupied as they would be in meeting a naval attack. The Rangiora Rifle Company, after drill, on Wednesday evening, held a meeting, at which it was decided to hold tho annual ball on August 18. A proposal to paint the interior, and otherwise improve the orderly-room was adopted. It was decided to commence a weekly Morris-tube- class on Thursday next, and to allow civilians to join in the shooting.
