THE EXHIBITION.
THE APPOINTMENT OF SECRETARY. Yesterday the Mayor (Mr C. M. Gray) rbceived the following telegram from the Premier in connection with the appointment of a secretary to the Exhibition : “ Respecting the appointment of a secretary to the Exhibition, the Government desire that you should proceed with the appointment as originally intended, i.e., the select committee to make a selection of two or three names and seiid on the names to your general committee, the general committee to send on two or three names for final selection by the Government. The salary of secretary being payable by the Government, the appointment must be made by the Government, otherwise payments would not pass the audit. Mr Monro, of the Industries and Commerce Department, will proceed to Christchurch to meet the general committee, with a view of obtaining and furnishing information and details essential to the commencement and fixing the object of the Exhibition, scope, and other particulars which are absolutely necessary, and as far as possible drawing up the prospectus of the Exhibition, which is required for public information and| for intending exhibitors.—H‘.
