Captain Alay, who has been for some years in command of the ai'med native constabulary of Fiji, and adjutant to the Volunteer Force of that colony, has been appointed chief of police in Trinidad. Tue late Governor of Fiji (Sir Henry Jackson) is now Governor of Trinidad. Messrs D. Al’Caskill, AI. L. T. Raymond, W. Cunningham and S. Waite, of Timaru, arrived in Christchurch yesterday. Air and Mrs P. Sax-good and Air H. A. Scott came to Chi'istchurch yesterday from Dunedin. Sir L. E. Rutherford, of Grassmere, is a visitor - to Chi'istchurch. Air H. A. Acton-Adams, of Tipapa, is iu town. Air Justice Chapman was a passenger for Wellington by the s.s. Rotomahana yesterday evening. Colonel Gihnour, of tho Salvation Army, left for Wellington yesterday evening by tho s.s. Rotomahana.
