OBITUARY.

MRS GRAHAM. [Per Press ; Association.] NELSON, January 30. Mrs James Graham, the mother of Mr J. Graham, M.H.R., died to-night ; aged eighty-two. She arrived in the ship Lloyds in February, 1842. Her husband, who left Britain before her, ' arrived in 1841. He died in 1873. - MR JOHN ROSS. [From Otib Correspondent.] DUNEDIN, January 30. Mr John lloss, who died on Sunday, was an old colonist, having come to . Dunedin in March, 1864, by the ship Resolute, which had left the Clyde in the middle of December, 1863. Immediately on his arrival here, Mr Ross noticed ah advertisement that a clerk was wanted by the firm of Sargood, Son and Em, for which he applied with success. Ho remained with the same firm till an attack •• of paralysis (which"was the ultimate cause of his death) forced him to retire, about threo years ago, after about thirty years connection with the firm. Ho was admitted as a partner in 1883, and when the firm started a new branch warehouse in Auckland that year ho went to manage it. Ho-returned to Dunedin in 1886, and remained here, with the exception of a not very prolonged stay of a few years in Wellington. In 1900, Mr Ross took a trip to the Old Country (he was a native of : Scotland! for the benefit of his health, returning to Dunedin the following year, but, owing to paralysis in his right side, he was forced to retire in 1901. Ho was a prominent howler, and for many years an active spirit on the Dunedin Club’s green. Sir Ross married Miss Glover ! not many years after his arrival in Dunedin, and he loaves a widow, three sons and two daughters.

Mr Richard Hoare, one of settlors on the Levels Plains Kerry-

town, died on Saturday, aged seventy. He-had been a farmer on the Levels for about forty years, and was much respected. Ho leaves three sons and seven daughter's.
