NAVY LEAGUE.

The-adjourned meeting of Taidy supporters of the Navy League was held in. the City ,i Council Chambers yesterday afternoon for the purpose of taking action to extendi the usefulness of the League. Thera was a " good -attendance, and Mr W. D.-Meaxos was in the chair. Before the business of the meeting was considered . the following resolution was carried unanimously; —, j. “ That tho ladies of Christchurch associated with the Navy league, desire to re- . cord them deep feeling of regret at tie 'loss the Navy has sustained in the recent untimely death, in the execution of his duty, of Lieutenant Payne, of HALS. c. Tauranga, and that a copy of this resolu- , tinn be forwarded' to his relatives.” The business of, tho meeting was discussed at some length, and it was decided to form a ladies’ branch of the League, to be associated -and work in conjunction with the ex- :, t i; isting League. The following officers were elected:—President, 3fra William. Reece; honorary secretary, Miss B. Sanders; executive committee, Meidames P. Campbell, J. A. H. Marciel, Bobiuson, Anson, A. 1 J. Merton, C. Clark, H. H. Ssoreta.n, C. . W. Carrington, T. W. Stringer, R. J. Scott, E. G. Staveley and H. F. Wigram.... The president, honorary secretary, and Mes- . dames P. Campbell, R. J. Scott and Anson - were elected a sub-committeeto confer with the existing branch of the League. Tie ( question of providing a, trophy to be competed for by the crews of the Australian squadron was considered, and several ladies gave in their names as being willing to assist in collecting the necessary funds. , ; The meeting adjourned with ai vote of thanks to the chairman, and it was decided 'to meet again on Monday, October 31, at 4 p.m.
