[Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON, October 19. Drizzling rain and heavy mist made the going holding on the Hutt tracks this morning, and all the work was done on the grass outside the course proper. Gold Dredge left half a mile behind in 55sec. Hukaaka, Amelia and Promotion covered a similar distance slightly under that time, Promotion shaping specially well. Coxswain finished in front of Pure Silver at the end of half a mile. Cyrus and Shrapnel Shell went once round, covering the last seven furlongs in Imin 37sec, Shrapnel Shell finishing in front. Joe Chamberlain and Laertes spurted four furlongs in 52sec, and Solution and Unawares took a second longer to cover a similar distance, Solution being ridden out. Ghoorka, who is looking well, went once round at a strong pace. Borie, with a light weight up, sprinted half a mile in 51 l-ssec. Armistice, in company, galloped a mile, the last seven furlongs in Imin 39 2-Baec. Armistice finished up by bolting with her rider, and going Lur miles before being pulled up. Melodoon cov•ered six furlongs in good style. Convoy, Mahutonga and Torcclet were associated over_ a mile, covering the last seven furlongs in Imin a6s.ee, Convoy having tho best of the gallop, and Tercclet finishing some distance behind. Pull Cry jumped away from the botch furlong post, picking up Rotoairo and another .at the six furlong mark. The full distance was covered in Imin Sojsec. Tupono and Multifid spurted two furlongs in 25 3-Ssec. A number of other horses did useful work. KICCARTON TRAINING NOTES. Wednesday. With several of the trainers taking their departure witli their charges for the Oamaru meeting, added to the fact that it was an off morning, proceedings to-day were of a very uninteresting nature. Cannie Chiel compassed a circuit on the plough at three-quar-ter speed, while Clanburn galloped six furlongs on the tan. Tho following horses were given half to steady pacing To-morrow, Magnificent, Signalman, Stronghold, Lady Wayward, Chryseis, Count Gorton, Catherine Gordon, Ability, Quarryman, Zealous, Malakoff, Tupara, Taxpayer, The Mohican, The Gnesser, Huku and Stepdancer. Alter breakfast half to medium pacing was accomplished by Slow Tom, Canticle, Ronga, Cerise and Blue, Makaroff, Czarevna, Beau Seaton, Kalvpso, Conal, Inglcneuk, Tsitsihar, Ordnance and Shellfire. Golden Vein ran a mile strongly. Tho. two-year-olds, Glenowlet, Clanchattan, Jacket and Bonnie Brae, with tho colours up, were exercised at the barrier, and took matters quietly. NEW ZEALAND TROTTING ASSOCIATION. The monthly meeting of the New Zealand Trotting Association was hold yesterday, when there were present Messrs P. Selig (president), T. Mart, A. L. Myers, W. G. Garrard, C. B. Howell and W. Hayward. Apologies were received for the absence of Messrs D. M'Lean. C. E. Mark and J. H. Pollock. Correspondence was read from the Southland Racing Club, drawing attention to the manipulation of trainers’ and riders’ licenses by uien who wished to use them for the purpose of gaining admittance to courses, and afterwards carrying on business as bookmakers. It was decided to write to the various clubs asking them to see that all licenses were for the current season and were not tampered with. It was further decided to call attention to a former resolution to the effect that riders and drivers should all sign a register before starting in a race. The .president stated that, in reply to a communication from the secretary oi the Ashburton Trotting Club, ho had sent notice that it was not legal to extend the date for receiving nominations. In connection with applications by the Westport and Nelson Trotting Clubs for December 2G for holding their meetings, it was decided that tho Westport Club should be granted a permit for December 26 and that the Kelson Club should be advised to select a fresh date. The registrations of tho following foreign horses were approved, subject to the payment of fees; Rawhiti, Mountain Maid, Birchmark, Myrtle Dean, Jewell’s Heiress, Miss Vera Capel, Thurlow and Globclia. Mr W. G. Garrard was appointed to act in Christchurch as official examiner of foreign horses. Trainers’, riders’ and drivers’ licenses, as recommended s by the Licensing Committee, were granted. , Programmes as'passed by the executive were approved. The Licensing Committee was authorised to inquire into the conduct of a licensed rider who created a disturbance at tho New Brighton Trotting Club’s meeting on October 8. W. Orange made another application for a trainer’s license, but, on the recommendation of the Licensing Committee, it was refused. Mr Garrard referred to the services rendered to the Association by tho president (Mr P. Selig) in the matter of secretarial work during the period of two months between the resignation of Mr Rollitt and the appointment'of tho new secretary. He moved—- •' That the Association places on record its appreciation of the valuable services rendered to the Association by Mr Selig, and that he be voted a bonus of twenty-five guineas.” Mr Hayward seconded the motion, which was carried unanimously. Mr Selig briefly returned thanks, and stated that when he undertook the work it was with no thought of reward. The next mooting of the Association was fixed for the first "Wednesday in November. The Wellington Racing Club’s Spring Meeting will be commenced to-day. The following horses may run prominently in their respective engagements: October Hurdle Handcap, Killarney; Shorts Handicap, Matuku; Wellington Handicap, Mahutonga; Rimutaka Hack Handicap, Flamen and Zingani; Wainni Handicap, Blazer; Nursery Handicap, Boomerang; Flying Handicap, Ballarat; Spring Hack Handicap, Chivalry and Somaroff. . Tho North Otago Jockey Chib’s Spring Meeting will begin to-day. The following horses may run forward in their respective engagements: Spring Handicap, Master Alix; Members’ Handicap, Flower o’ Clutha; North Otago Cup, Bulawayo; Redoastle Welter Handicap, Manjess; Flying Handicap, Sandy; Elderslie Trot Handicap, Millionaire; Tokarahi Trot Handicap, Alice Palm. The Ashburton Trotting Chib sustained a slight loss over its recent spring meeting, the inclemency of the weather affecting the attendance. Nominations for the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Chib’s Spring Meeting will close on Saturday. The programme appears in this issue.
