ATHLETIC.

The committee of the Eangiora Athletic Association met on Tuesday evening. Five tew members were elected. It was resolved )o subscribe a guinea to the Asquith memorial fund. A number of sub-committees were , appointed to cany out arrangements ■in connection with the New Year’s Day sports. The secretary waa instructed to apply to the Domain Board for the use of .. The Recreation Ground, with permission to charge at the gate; also to apply to the Railway Traffic Manager for the usual excursion train from Christchurch. Instruction was given to have the track put in •rdet as early as possible. The Pioneer Club’s annual sports will be field at Lancaster Park on November 19 and >■ 82. ' The club’s cups'and trophifs will be :-competed for, and teams of athletes from —Dunedin and Wellington will take part in Mhe competition. The programme will in- ' clude running, cycling, hurdling and jump- ' jng contests, in addition to several challenge competitions. The annual meeting of the South Canterbury Amateur Athletic Club was held on ’Tuesday evening, Mr 'G. J. Hamilton •A! presiding over a fair attendance. At a committee meeting of the New Brighton Athletic Club on Tuesday night, the secretary reported that ha had seen Mr Brightling, who had promised to give the Club the same proportion of his takings on October 27, as the >7ew Brighton Tramway Company had . agreed to give . The volunteer teams’ ■ marching competition would be held on the evening of October 27. The teams will itert from the Square at 7 o’clock, and other teams will be allowed' to enter if the officers commanding those already entered consent to the entries. A vote of thanks was accorded to the New 'Brighton Tramway Company for its offer to carry back from. New Brighton, free of charge, members of competing teams.
