Amongst the passengers by the express train for the south yesterday were Colonel and Mrs Moore (Gsral-dine), Mr E. R. Guinness (Timaru), Mr Donald M'Donald) (Edendale) and Mr R. C. Forsyte. Mr G. F. Clulee, of Durban, who » visit - in/>-. New Zealand on business connected 1 witlh tfoe produce trade, arrived from Welington by the Eotomahana yesterday. Mr Clulee will go on to Timaru on Monday. Mr G. G. Stead, who arrived from Sydney by .the.s.s. Victoria, came from Wellington by the. s.s. Rotoma.hana yesterday morning. „ , A Press-Association message from Wellington states that much sympathy is expressed for the member for Motueka, owing to the sudden death of his wife, who was on a .visit to O.imini. ■ • • A Wellington correspondent telegraphs : —The football community was deeply stirred! at the news of Mr Asquith's death. Mr Asquith had made many friends in this city during his long association with Rugby matters "Sympathetic messages have been forwarded to the -Canterbury Rugby Union and Mrs Asquith. Mr James Mills, general manager of the Union Steamship Company, came through from Dnnedin by the express train vester:.!ay, and went on to Wellington by the Rotomahaina. Among-the. passengers by the Botoroahana for the north last eveninsr were Mr N. L. M'Beth and Mr H. G. Mitchell. Mr amd Mrs Darling arrived from Oainaru by the. express train inst evening. Mr If. A. Can- (Auckland) and Mr W. Jaques -arrived from the south by the express train last evening. Mr J. A. Gilruth, Chief Government Veterinarian,'arrived by the Rotomahana from Wellington yesterday. Mr T. Chapman (Mount Palm) came, to town yesterday. Among the arrivals from Wellington yesterday morning were Dr and Mrs Don, Mr and Mrs Edgar Jones (Mount Nessing), and Messrs C. Worthy (London), L. R. Bondall, F. J. R. Chase-Morris and F. Klein. \
Sergeant Barlow returned to Ashburton yesterday, after a holiday.
The Hon A. Baklcy left for Wellington by the s.s. Westralia yesterday. Mr Michie was a passenger by the Rotomahana last, night.
