Price saved twice in quick succession with good strokes. The Whites now • strongly attacked, and for a few minutes severely tried the Saturday men’s defence. Blackwell and Hunter repelled the invaders, and shortly afterwards Hunter was compelled to corner to save. Hale got away fast on the wing, and centred well to Blackwell, who, however, bit wide of the Thursday goal, and the ball was again returned. For some minutes both goals were in turn attacked, but the spell ended with no score. On changing ends Smith, the Thursday captain, altered his forward ranks slightly, placing Harrington in the centre and Amos on the wing. Shortly after the bully Blackwell, from a centre by Rankin, dribbled finely up the field and scored the first goal, giving Saturday the lead. Campbell, the Thursday back, was her© prominent with some fine stick work, and repeatedly beat the opposing left wing. The Whites rushed to the Saturday goal, but a good opportunity was lost through want of backing up. A penalty bully was awarded against Campbell for obstruction, but Blackwell could not find the net. White and Ritchie, the Thursday rightwing, were prominent in an attack, and Price wee compelled to kick to save. Ritchie ana Simpson both missed easy chances through over 'eagerness, and Hunter saved by conceding a- corner. Hale, Jacobs and Matthews were next conspicuous in a rush, butsafe back fday held them in check. White and Ritchie with a passing rush took the ball into the Blues’ circle, and Harrington scored, making tho points even. From this out the play was fast, open and interesting, each side attacking alternately, and the. game ended in the Whites’ twenty-five with the scores unchanged. Mr W. Lawrence was referee.
