MISS MENKMEYER.
A Continental reputation has been won by Miss Menkmeyer, whose talents will be displayed at Canterbury Hall to-morrow evening. It is twelve years since she, then a very young girl, left Australia for Europe. After studying and practising- assiduously at Frankfort-on-the-Maine for two or three years, she took some lessons in Paris, and then received the finishing touches of, her musical education from that famous master, Rubenstein. Miss Menkmeyer was now well equipped, and begun a, triumphal career, and at St Petersburg, Moscow, Vienna, Berlin, Paris and London she achieved striking success in lior dual capacity o'( pianiste and vocalist. It is stated that Miss Menkmeyer takes a high, place as a soprano soloist, having been placed by Madame Mulluiger (who was prima donna to, the Berlin Opera House for years), at the.head of her celebrated operatic class when she studied with her. Miss Menkmeyer made her debut as a singer at Amsterdam. She took Elsa in "Lohen-grin,''.-.Elizabeth in " Tannhauser," Marguerite in "Faust," and Fidelia in "Carmen," Agatha in " Der Frieschutz "),- and leading roles in many other operas. After singing with conspicuous success in Amsterdam, Miss Menkmeyer was engaged in concerts, both playing and singing with orchestral accompaniment. Thei last concert given before she lelt for Australia recently, was at Ems, and the King of Sweden was present.
