MEETINGS OF SOCIETIES.

A meeting of temperance workers waa held in the Lyttelton Presbyterian Schoolroom recently. The Rev A. H. Treadwell presided. It was decided to hold the opening meeting of the Lyttelton United Band of Hope on Friday, in the Wesleyan Schoolroom., at 7 p.m., and also to affiliate with the Canterbury Band of Hope Union. The following officers were elected:—President, the Rev A. H. Treadwell; vice-presidents, the Rev J. A. Luxford, Mesdames Whitby, Clark and Hatchwell; secretary, Miss Ross ; assistant secretary and treasurer, Mr A. Foster. General, Dialogue, Music and Recitation Committees were formed.

The committee of the Gust Institute held its monthly meeting on Monday evening ; present—Messrs E. W. Cooper (in the chair),- Early, Forbes, Stuart, Ruddenklau, Nankivelk Henderson, Rev A. S. Fox and HaasiiJl. Committees were appointed to report on the hall furniture, and to expend the Government subsidy in the purchase of new books for the library. The Cust Band of Hope was granted the use of the hall on the same terms as year. On Monday evening a. meeting -was held at tho Cust Presbyterian Schoolroom in reference to the Band of Hope. It was resolved that the meetings slurald be resumed. The Rev W. Spence was elected president, Miss N. Walker secretary, and Mr Nankivell treasurer.
