ROAD BOARDS.

LITTLE RIVER. The Little River Ro.ad Board met on Monday; present—Messrs H. 13. Buchanan, H. White, W. F. Parkinson and J. O. Coop. Ml- Buchanan was unanimously elected chairman for the ensuing year. It was .resolved to pay the extra, premium necessitated by the alteration in tho Workmen's Compensation for Accidents Act. It was decided not to sell white pine in the Western Gully. The draft, balance-sheet was considered satisfactory. It was resolved that notice should bc.served on all owners and occupiers of land abutting on the river at Little River, to cut down and remove all trees and other obstructions to the. free flow of the. water, and, failing compliance, that steps should bo taken bv the Board to do tho clearing at tho expense of those, concerned. It was reported that petitions in reference to_ the formation of a new county were in circulation, and this was approved. RAIvAIA. The Rakaia Road Board met on Monday, all the members attending. The Surveyor was instructed to forward to the Department of Roads and Bridges a specification of the work on which it is proposed to expend the balance of the Government grant for St Helen's Road, and, if approved Jry that Department, to call tenders for the work. Cases of scarlet fever were reported. Notice to clear gorss from roads was orderer to be served on several ratepayers.

EYRETON. The annual meeting of the Eyretou Roar! Board was held on Monday; presentMessrs James Wright (chairman), Evans, Skevington and Moore. The Surveyor's report was approved. ' Mr I). Buddo. M.H-.-R,, wrote, stating that the Minister of Lands had advised him of the receipt of another petition in regard to the appointment of members, of the Domain Board, and suggesting that the Hoard should nominate one and the Jockey Ohih the other member. It was resolved that the matter should be left with the new Board to deal with. The Chief Engineer of Roads wrote, enclosing the "Gazette" notiea of his Excellency the Governor's proclamation dedicating the. western end of the Main Drain Reserve as a road. It .was resolved that the deed of transfer of the lea.se of Reserves 366 and 367 from John Brosnahan to R.. and J. Ward should be signed and sealed b,v. Chairman.. Mr

F. Kelly's request that liis name should be taken .iff the. rate roll for Rural Sections Nos. 6768, 6657 and 6658, ami that Mr Vines W. Wright's name should be inserted, was agreed to, and it was decided to permit Mr Thomas Skevington to transfer the rate liability on Rural Sections Nop. 3176 and 4133 to Mr Henry Mangells. Mr F. Kelly's seat was declared vacant. The following tenders wero accepted: —Clothier's Road bank, Messrs Boss and Lambert, £7O; embankments from Reserve 380 to No. 10 Road, Mr 1"). Chapman, £1 2s lid per chain, on condition the Board should have solo control of the banks in future. Accounts (£174 13s lid) were passed for payment.
