ENTERTAINMENTS.
In the Linwood Congregational Hall on Tuesday, a complimentary social was given to Mr and Mrs F. Sladen, who-intend leaving on a trip to> England. The Rev I. Sarginson said that in the six years Mr Sladen had been in the colony he had impressed all who knew him -with his sterling character. The tame remarks could be applied to Mrs Sladen. The ' meeting also bada farewell to the Rev I. Sarginson., who will leave shortly for Brisbane, where he wiLl represent the New Zealand Congregational Union at the jubilee celebrations of the denomination' in Queensland. The Yorkshire Society held the opening social- of its winter session on Tuesday evening. Mr A. E. G. Rhodes, vice-presi-dent, occupied the chair, supported by Captain Colbeck and Lieutenant Evans, of the Morning,. and the officers of the Society. A large number of members were present. Songs were given by Misses Stewart and Thompson, and Messrs C. Reid, Rodder, Ampman, M'Leun and Sullivan, recitations by Miss F. Wilson, Messrs C. H. Hobbs and Stead, and a, sailor's hornpipe by Boatswain Cheater and Mr J. Butterfield. The officers and crew of the Morning, most of whom are Yorkshiremen, were present, and Lieutenant Evans presented a framed photograph of the officers and' crew to the Society. - Dancing succeeded supper. Miss Wilson was pianist.
