MASTERTON NEWS.
[Per Pbess Association.] MASTERTON, May 6. final meeting of the Band Contest Committee was held to-day. The balincesheet showed a credit of £42. It was decided to hand over this amount to the uniform fund of the Masterton Brass Band. The chairman stated that the gross rereipts in connection with the Contest amounted to £1032. As a result of the trust lands trustees' refusal to comply with the instructions of the Health Department to demolish certain of their buildings, Dr Frengley, who is acting for Dr Valentine, mads a round of the premises to-day, decided to insist upon certain alterations, and to refer the remainder again to 'Dr Valentine, who will communicate his final decision to the Council later.
While the Acting Health Officer, Dr Frengley, was making a tour of inspection of Masterton to-day, ho discovered a painful case of over-crowding. In a oneroomed out-building ' live children, -whose ages ranged from about 4 to 14, are " bunked " together. The doctor said that he had not had many more serious cases brought under his notice.
Councillor Goodall has given notice, of his intention to move at the next meeting of the Borough Council, that Ca;ptain Morris should be requested to resign his position as captain of the Fire Brigade, as the majority of the firemen have declared by ballot that they have no confidence in him.
