'NEW ZEALAND TROTTING ASSOCIATION. The monthly meeting of the New Zealand Trotting Association) was held last night, when there were present—Messrs P. Selig (president), D. M'Lean, G. King, AV. G. Garrard, E. Clarkson, A. L. Myers and tho Hon H. Gourley.'r Apologies were received for the ehsemca of Messrs C. S. Howell and C. E. ~ Calcutt. A letter was read from the Colonial Secretary, enclosing an application from the AVairau Trotting Club asking for a totalisator permit ■rendered vacant by the alleged default of tho Wellington Trotting' Club to pay its stakes. A; telegram from the "AA r ellington Club stated thai financial arrangements would be made in V a day or two, and that it was- intended to : hold ithe autumn meeting. It was- decided to . telegraph to the Wellington Trotting Club for a.n immediato explanation of the position, a reply to tho Colonial Secretary to be postponed till the receipt of information from tho Wellington Trotting Club. A letter was read from the Lumsden Hack Race Club regarding the horse Ringer. He had been borrowed from the owner and entered for, a. meeting under the name of Micky, and. later on, when, the owner won a race with : him under his proper name, he was disqualified by the Lumsden Club. It was decided to make further inquiry into tho case. The Secretary of the Hokitilca Trotting Club wrote stating that in the District Handicap; Muriel galloped three times. She won the race, but tho stewards thought tho galloping was material and intentional, and disqualified . Muriol and herjridar for twelvo months.. A letter was read from G. Lawson, the owner, elating that the galloping was not intentional, and asking the Association for the removal of the disqualification.' He atao mentioned that several of tho other competitors were not qualified to start, owing to the horses not being registered and the riders and trainers not licensed. It was decided to endorse tho disqualification. AVith regard to the question of unregistered horses and unlicensed riders it was decided to ask the club for some information. ■

The Secretary of thp Hokitika Trotting Club wroto stating that in one of the races at its meeting Charlie finished first and Buller second. Tho owner of Bul'er protested that Charlie's, owner had not a trainer's license. The letter pointed out that only two of the horses were trained, the others beinjj owned by farmers. Tha club wished 1o know if it was necessary for an owner to have a licenso to train his own horse. It was decided to reply that a trainer's license wa3 necessary.

during -the greater part of tho race. The rider was told to stop his thorse, but he continued in the race, and interfered with Linda. Dooley finished first, but the stewards disqualified the rider, Robert White, for fivo years, and tho owner, ,M. Nolan, and tho horso Dooiey for ono year. Further correspondence on the same subject was also read. On behalf of the rider it was stated that the reins had broken during the race, the horse thus getting out of control. It was decided that tho correspondence should bo sent back to tho club for perusal. Tho Secretary of tho Jlokitika Trotting Club wrote stating that in the Pony Flat race, F. Fane, the rider of Molly, was found guilty of foul riding and deliberately jostling Starlight, and tho 'stewards disqualified Fane and the horso for life. Consideration was held over till next meeting. The Secretary of tho Grcymouth Trotting Club wrote stating that in the Ladies' Bracelet Alberta, ridden by G. B. Murfitt, galloped past tho post. Alberta was disqualified for tho race, and tho owner was fined £5. ' The- action of the stewards was endorsed.

Correspondence was read from tho Secretary of the New Zealand Metropolitan _ Trotting Club with regard to tho disqualification of D. J. Price and tho niaro Felony for six months. A long letter was also read from D. J. Price, reviowing tho decision of tho stewards, and asking if he might bo permitted to appoal on a question of interpretation of the law. Tho action of tho stewards was endorsed. It wa3 resolved that tho Association views with displeasure the way in which the case had been put before it. It was also resolved that the stewards should bo asked whether they have taken steps to verify tho statement made by Dr Thacker during the hearing of tho caso against Price, that tho supposed owner of Felony had been laying against the horse for the race.

Correspondence was read with regard 'to the disqualification of H. T. Smith by the Rangitata Sports Club. It was decided to refer tho matter back to tho club for further information, Smith having informed the Association that ho had not bean given a chance of defending himself. A number of irainers' and riders' licenses were issued and three programmes were passed. Tho meeting then adjourned till Wednesday at half-past seven.

Tho Ashburton Trotting Club's meeting will bo held to-day.
