The total quantity of wheat and flour afloat for the United Kingdom is 2,185,000 Quarters, and for the Conttineint 2,135,0p0 quarters. Atlantic shipments 217,000 quarters.

The sales .opened on May 5 with keen ctfm'petation, the attendance being very good. The quantity available, including wool held .over from last sales, is 208,000 bales. Messrs Dalgety and Company, Limited, have received the following cable message from their London office, under date May 5 :—The third series of wool 'sales opened to-day with aa indifferent selection. There was a large attendance of buyers, and competition was very animated. So far hardly any merinoes have- been offered. As compared with closing rates of last series prices of merinoes and fine cross-breds are 5 per cent higher. Prices of medium crossbreds are 15 per cent higher, and coarse cross-breds 10 per cent higher.
