FIRES.

A fire at the Star and Garter Hotel caused the four city engines to turn outi at 1.55 this morning. The outbreak was under control by the time the Brigade arrived, so that its assistance was not needed. An alarm of fire was rung at the Sydenham station at about 7.45 last evening. The Sydenham chemical and the steamer and clicmical from the Lichfield station went to the scene. It was found that a! summer-house at Mr F. Wilding's residence, naar Wilson's Road, had been set; on fire 'by fine-works, which, had be on let off. The summer-house was destroyed, but not further damage was done. A false alarm, of fire was rung on the Sydenham bell at) 8.50 p.m.
