MEETINGS OF SOCIETIES.
The inamgural meeting of the Oxford Terrace Literary and Debating Society took place on Tuesday, when a, large gathering asembled in the Baptist Schoolroom. The programme included vocaj and instrumental music and recitations. The President, the Rev R. S. Gray, delivered a stirring address, in which he put forth the claims of tho Society and its advantages for young men about to take a position in the world. Tho Women's Christian Temperance Union met in the Metaphysical Club Rooms on Wednesday. It was arranged to hold the Jubilee- Tea on May 7, at 3 o'clock. Letters wore received from Messrs n. D. Bedford, M.H.R. and J. F. Arnold', M.H.R, The following were elected superintendents of departments:—Juvenile Department, Mi!'S Roberts; Home Meetings, Miss< Gordon; Temperance Instruction, Miss M. Smith; Social Purity, Mrs Guise; Jubilee Home, Miss Clark and Mrs Pedlar; Children's Aid Society, Miss Roberts. Miss Gordon and Mrs Field ; Samaritan Home, Mrs Malcolm.
