HOSPITAL BOARDS.
CHRISTGHURCH. The Christchurch Hospital Board met yesterday afternoon ; present—Messrs J. Diuilop (chairman), E. Wallace, J. Dobson, J. ■Hamilton, D. 'M'Milian, J. Wolfe, W. Jacques, G. Payling, H. H. Loughnan and C. H. Winny. An apology for absence was received from Mr T. H.'Duvey, M.H.R.
The treasurers report was read, showing receipts since last meeting £209 16s lid and expenditure £920 13. The committee's report was received, stating that further time would be required for the preparation of a report- on the proposal of Miss Jakhis, to provide a music hall for patients. The new operating theatre was being steadily advanced,- and good progress was being made with the building at Bottle Lake. One of the stokers having left, it was- suggested that Mr T. Rose, a certificated engineer, should be appointed, at a. salary of £156 per annum. The report was adopted. •The House Surgeons ■,report, which was adopted, drew attention to the fact that three patients admitted in the previous month were moribund when they arrived.
The Chairman said that it was very unfair to the Hospital that its death rate should be increased by the sending in of patients merely to die. Mr Jacques- suggested that the Board should, ascertain, the names of the.doctors who,were responsible for sending in cases in a moribund condition. Mr Winny said. that the Hospital should be protected against the admission ol any patients in the la?t stages of some long-standing disease, such as cancer. Whenever a doctor proposed to send a case of no great urgency into the Hospital, he should give reasonable notice to the House Surgeon. The'Chairman stated that he would have a return prepared.showing the origin of the moribund cases sent in. SOUTH CANTERBURY. The South Canterbury Hospital and Charitable AM Board met yesterday. The. architect (Mr G. S. Turnbuil), reported ' that the new nurses' quarters will be ready for occupation in about- a fortnight, but h-e was unable, to say w!hen the new fever 1 ward would be finished.. The contract timeexpires on April 30. Dr Clabdtes, resident, surgeon, who has been away on a holiday, and™ in the course of his .irip visited six; other hospitals, stated that, exespt on uiie point, the Timaru Hospital would compare more than favourably with any institution
