FIRES.

[Per Press Association.] AUCKLAND, April 20. On Sunday night a. fire was discovered in the top storey of Messrs Brown, Barrett and Company’s three-storey warehouse in Customs Street. The fire evidently originated in the paper label and paper-bag de" partment. and when it was discovered it had partly burned the flooring and wooden partition. It was extinguished without further damage. Tiro cause of the fire is a mystery. The premises had been locked up siince Saturday afternoon, and there was no sign that the place had since been entered. The insurance on the building and contents totalled £12,000. HAWERA, April 20. The homestead of Mr J. Morrison, of HurJeyville, near Patea., was destroyed by' fire early this morning. The occupants escaped with difficulty in their night clothes. Mr Morrison's loss is very severe.
