' The election for the Newmarket seat resulted in the return of Mr C. D. Rose, Liberal, who rolled 4414. Mr H. L. Brassey, Conservative, polled 3907. The British alliance with Germany in connection with the Venezuelan trouble largely affected the result. (At the general election of 1900 the late Colonel MCalraont, Conservative, was returned by 4295 votes, against 3218 polled by Mr C." D. Rose; the Liberal candidate.)
