RIFLE SHOOTING
AUCKLAND ASSOCIATION. [Per PKiiSS^AssociATioN.] AUCKLAND, Jan. 4.
The Auckland -Rifle- Association's annual meeting concluded on Saturday. The Northern Match, with the "Star" Cup, was won by Private W. Cox. of the Victoria, Rifles', who also wou the Auckland Match and "Herald'' Cup on Thursday. Private. Cox also was first in the aggregates, with 165 points, and receives Mr Kohn's gold medal as champion of the- meeting. Private P. Browne, of the Hauraki Rifles, was second in the aggregate, with 163. The Rapidity Match was wou by Lieutenant Makgilf, of Wa-iuka with 34, Private Tretlunven. of Hauraki Rifles, second with 33. The. Nursery Match was won by Sergeant Crosbie, of Thames, with 34. The winners of the volley firing were:— Whangarei Rifles, 80, 1 ; 'No. 3 Ohinemuri (first team), 76. 2; No. 1 Ohinemuri Rifles, 73. 3. Victoria, Rifles (first team) won the field firing with bo. Thames Rifles being second with 44, and Marsden Mounted third with 40.' Owing to want of time, the Carbine Match was abandoned, and the Cadet Match deferred till next Saturday. The next annual meeting will probably be held on the new range at Penrose. WELLINGTON, Jany 3.
In the programme for the Defence-Torces Rifle Association meeting, which opens at Trentham in March, is a. clause under the headjng ''Rifles," stating that "members of corps or clubs must rise the weapon'with which the corps or club is armed." This applies only to those corps armed with carbines. The members of rifle clubs may use Martini-Enfield or the Lee-Enfield rifles, but all weapons must be issued by the New Zealand Government.
