ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
[Pee Press Association.] AUCKLAND, Dec. 15. At the inquest touching the death of Louis von Rotter, a verdict of death from ' atropine poisoning was returned. WANGANUI, Dec. 15. * While three men were driving yesterday their horse shied at a; railway engine and swerved, capsizing the trap, and the occu.pants were thrown out close to the railway line. One had his collarbone broken and a contusion of the leg, another had ribs fractured, and the third escaped with a lev/' bruises. The first-named is now in the hospital. The engine pulled up clear of the obstruction. NELSON, Dec. 15. the Rotoruai w-'is entering the harbour this .morning ihe collided with tue wharf, and damaged the stanchions slightly. The damage is estimated at a few pounds. HOKITIKA, Dec. 15. A serious accident is reported from Kumara. A young man named Frederick Richards, while .handling; a pea-rifle, accidentally shot 3iis another in t'he back, the ball passing through, her abdomen. The case is considered serious. Mrs l W. T. Richards, of Kumara, who was accidentally shot by her son, eighteen, years of age, on Saturday, succumbed to her injuries this evening. DUNEDIN, Dec. 15. Lieutenant Kerkham, who was injured while bathing at St Clair yesterday, died in the Hospital last night. He Avas a son of the Rev R. Kerkhaon, formerly vicar of Roslvn. a INVEROARGILL, Dec. 15. A serious bicycle accident occurred on Saturday night to Mr Boos, the travelling representative of the Deering Harvester Company, wlio was thrown on to his 'head when crossing a culvert on the Bluff Road and rendered unconscious. He is now in the Hospital.
An inquest, touching, the death of Martha Ash, was held at Sydenham yesterday morning, before Mr Bishop, coroner. Tho evidence was that the woman. had died of heart disease. A verdict was returned accordingly.', A boy named Frank M'Fadden, residing at Preb'blefcou, was brought to the Christchurch Hospital last evening with his elbow out- of joint. Tho injury was caused by a fall down a drain. On Sunday a man named James Cotter, one-of the crew of the s.s. Wa.ikato, fell from a cliff at Governor's Bay, and received a dislocation of one of his knees. Yesterdey he was placed under chloroform at the Lyttellon casual ward by Drs Pairman and Upham, who reduced the dislocation.
