THE 'STRIKE SPREADING. United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. PARIS, Dec. 12. The Plumbers’, Cabinetmakers’, • Boot-! makers’. Butchers’, and Dockers’ Societies! at Marseilles have voted in favour of a! general -strike. STRIKE OF BAKERS. SERIOUS RIOTS. ■ (Received Deo. 14, 6.25 p.m.) PARIS, Dec. 13. o The bakers of Marseilles have struck. Army bakers will replace them. Owing to some gangs of labourers re-j suming work on the quays, the dockers in- i terfered, and compelled the police to re- , treat. The Commissary of Police was wounded in the face during the struggle. The gendarmerie then charged and dispersed the mob, and arrested fifteen men' armed with knives.
MUitary occupy the thoroughfares lead, ing to the docks, free labourers being protected. A meeting of 8000 naval reservists and dockers censured the Government, demanded the withdrawal of the troops,, and threatened: violence in reply to the brutality of the police. The ship-owners
urge the Government to punish the reserfv ists, inasmuch as they are deserter*.
