AN ORDERLY CITY.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —The testimony of Inspector Gillies, as given in your issue of to-day, is most gratifying. And, on the whole, it can bo borne out by anyone who mingled with the great masses of people on the night of election -day. I passed through the densest parts of the crowd repeatedly, and was struck by the manner in which earnest and excited partisans respected the presence of tho women electors. The causes of the great change that hgs come over our elections may fairly be attributed to the purifying effect of woman suffrage, and also to the enormous increase in temperance sentiment, The cleanness, order and good temper of the vast crowds on Tuesday night affords a splendid illustration of the beneficial effect of closing the liquor bars for even a few hours.—l am, etc., OBSERVER.
