AUSTRALIAN TRADES CONGRESS.

STATE GOVERNORSHIPS. United Press Association—By Electric T el r graph—Copy righ t. (Received Nov. 28, 10.24 p.m.) SYDNEY, Nov. 28. A resolution was carried at the Trade Congress that State Governors were no longer necessary. The- speakers argued that since Federation, State Governorships had been relegated to retired soldiers and decrepit sailors. Their duties could be performed by Chief Justices. The Congress also adopted the committees’ recommendations for the federation of State, labour organisations. (Received Nov. 28, 10.24 p.m.)

Tho Trade Congress resolved that the judgment in, the Taff-Vale case was an infringement of trades unions’ rights, and urged Labour and Liberal members of State Parliaments to have a law passed exempting trades unions, their officials and members from the operation of such judgment. The Congress adopted resolutions in favour of the nationalisation of the liquor traffic, trades unionists purchasing necessaries upon a purely co-operative principle, and State or municipal lodging houses for female workers.
