PIGEON-PLYING.
The. Chris f-churcb, Homing Pigeon Society flew its, fourth race of the. season; on Saturday from Seaclin", a distance of 148 miles. Fourteen members sent twenty-nine birds, which, were liberated, iby the station master at 9 a.m., wind north-west, weather fine. The .following were the results of rtho iace:—Mr if. Wilson's Video, 1061yds per minute; Mr F. Kingsford's Ironclad, 1063yds; Mr P. -TV. Uinvin's Sipeod'wcll, 1081yds; Mr A. Steward's Endner, lOSGyd's; Mr F. Chambers's Free Y/ili, 1055yds; Mr G. Brunt's Plain,' Bill, ' 1055yc1'3; Mr G. Porrott's Valletta, 1016yds; Mr A. Gerard's Petone, 1030yds; Mr G. W. Smith's Ka-ikoura., 1030yds; Mr A. Johnstone's Avcr.ger, 1030yds; Mr P. V?. Robertson's Lone Star, 979yds; Mr C. Cooper's Darwin, 966yd5;,. Mr R. Johiuon's Napper Bob, 9Soyda. The Society desires to thank the <stetionmaster at Seaeliff for his care and liberation of the birds. A.race from ChiistcTmrcfo; to TimaYu, flown last week by the Tiina.ru Pigeon Frving Club, for which twenty birds were liberated, was , won 'by Mr Young's Vincent, which averaged 1010yds per minute ifor the flight. MEETINGS OF SOCIETIES. «, The annual meeting of the Eangiora Past Grands' Lodge, 1.0.0. F., M.U., was held on Thursday evening, when there was a good attendance from the Eangiora, Wood-end and Ohoka Lodges. The President, P.P.G.M. Brc- W. T. Wilson, was in the- chair. Officers for the year were elected as follow:—President, " Bro W. Smith.; vice-president, Bro F. Horrell; secretary, Bro J. Marshall; tyler, Bro E. Payne; supporters, Bros T. Nottingham, Young, TV. Stalker and J. Hands. A motion was passed approving of the district joining the New Zealand district. On behalf of the Lodge, 'D.PsG.M. Bell presented Past Grand's Jewels to Bros W. T. Wilson and J. Marshall, in recognition of their services, and they were afterwards entertained at supper. A general meeting of the Lyttelton Literary and Debating Society was held on Friday evening. The President (Captain Manning) was in the chair. A balancesheet, showing a substantial credit balance, was presented and adopted. The. prizes won at the various competitions during the session were presented. It was decided to have, a picnic at Pura.u on the "-People's Day" of the Metropolitan Show, and ;& committee was appointed to make the necessary arrangements. Votes of thanks were passed to .the President, and to. Mrs R. Brown, who trained the performers for the successful dramatic performance with which the session was closed.
