Some thousands of persons- attended the Hospital Sunday demonstration at the Basin Reserve this afternoon. a Sir Robert Stout, in the course of an eloquent -address, dwelt on the need of a convalescent home, for which the demonstration was held. He hoped that- tfliose unable to give monetary assistance would display sympathy by helping in other ways. On the subject of Sabbath recreation, he pointed out that early' reformers, Luther and Calvin, like Bishop Julius, held much more liberal views than .many of their successors, and that the Founder of Christianity had told tihe Jews 19C0 years ago that it was lawful to do go>od on the Sabbath. Sir Joseph Ward subsequently spoke of the deserving nature of the object, and the steps taken by the State in recent years in aid of hospitals.
