PRESENTATIONS.

On Tuesday evening Captain Oakes, on behalf of the members or the Natives Rifles, presented to Mr Bourdot a handsome marble clock, bearing the following inscription: —"Presented to Lieutenant A. Bourdot, Canterbury (N.Z.), Natives Rifles, on the occasion of his marriage—2s—9 02> Mr Bourdot thanked the members for their present. On Saturday the employees of Messrs O'Brien and Co. presented the foreman of the upper department, Mr Goodland, with a handsome set of gold studs, on the occasion of his leaving to fill a new position. In the evening he was entertained by the employees at*a dinner at the Oxford Hotel. At a social held by the Timaru City Rifles last Friday evening, a presentation was made to Mr J. L. Gillies, late captain of the company, he having; resigned in order to become secretary to the drillshed trustees. When Mr Gillies took the captaincy, the corps was £IOO in debt, and £4OO or £SOO more was needed for new uniforms. By his energy he had cleared off the debt, and provided the uniforms, and left the company debt free when he resigned. The employees of the Olu-istchurch Gas Company met at the ofricfe of t<he company on Saturday, and Mr H. C. Ridley, on behalf of the employees', presented 1 Mr J. Seales, a member of the* staff. withA handsome set of carvers, as a. wedding,present.
